Week
of April 30th-May 4th
This week in Reading
we will begin the story Building with Dad. The question we
will focus on is: What are different ways of building? This story is an
informational fiction and we will be focusing on the text based comprehension
skill of compare and contrast. Our phonics skill is /a/ spelled Aa and /i/
spelled Ii. Our high frequency words are: here, with, do, what, little.
This week in Math we
will begin Topic 11, Decomposing Numbers 11 to 19. We
will learn to create number sets to 19 and learn parts of numbers 11-19. Please
continue practicing counting to 100 by ones, fives, and tens as well as writing
numbers 0 to 20.
Our class took some
of the end of the year Kindergarten testing which was administered by the Title
1 teachers last week. I have not yet received the results on the ten-minute
writing test but as I was walking around during the test I noticed a huge
improvement. Thank you for working with your child! J This Thursday, students will take the
Math DIBELS test. They will be asked to identify as many numbers, out of order,
as possible, tell the quantity that is bigger when looking at both sides of a
domino, and tell the number that would come next when looking at a flash card.
Our daily special
schedule for the week is: Monday, Day 8-Gym; Tuesday, Day 9-Music; Wednesday,
Day 10-Computer; Thursday, Day 1-Art; and Friday, Day 2-Guidance.
Some dates to look
ahead: 5/3-Math DIBELS test, 5/16-Reading DIBELS test, 5/22-Kindergarten
Graduation, 5/28- off for Memorial Day.
