Week of May 29th-June 1st

This week in Reading we will begin the story The House That Tony Lives In. The question we will focus on is: Who helps to build a house? This story is informational fiction and we will be focusing on the text based comprehension skill of setting. Our phonics skill is a letter review a decoding words. Our high frequency words are: review all words.

This week in Math we will finish with Topic 12, Measurement. We will learn to describe objects by more than one attribute, compare by length, weight, and height as well as compare capacities. Please continue practicing counting to 100 by ones, fives, and tens as well as writing numbers 0 to 20.

We all had a blast at the Carnival on Friday! Thank you to our amazing PTO and wonderful parent volunteers for organizing it. J

In your child’s folder you will find their graduation recognition certificate and class composite.  Throughout this week, things will be coming home that we no longer need in our desks. Please be sure to check folders and backpacks daily and keep these items at home.

Week of May 21st-25th

This week in Reading we will begin the story Alistair and Kip’s Great Adventure. The question we will focus on is: What can friends build together? This story is an animal fantasy and we will be focusing on the text based comprehension skill of plot. Our phonics skill is /u/ spelled Uu. Our high frequency words are: for, my, of, we, yellow.

This week in Math we will continue with Topic 12, Measurement. We will learn to describe objects by more than one attribute, compare by length, weight, and height as well as compare capacities. Please continue practicing counting to 100 by ones, fives, and tens as well as writing numbers 0 to 20.

We have quite a busy week in Kindergarten. Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 22nd will be Kindergarten Graduation in the high school auditorium! Graduation will begin at 1pm with the doors opening at 12:45pm. Students should wear a white colored shirt and girls should wear their hair down for their cap to fit. Please refer to the blue cover sheet that was attached to your graduation tickets for all other important information.

The school Carnival will be held this Friday, May 25th! Students may dress in gym clothes for this fun day. Please send in a water bottle with your child. Also, please apply sunscreen and if you would like send in sunscreen to be reapplied during the day. This will be such a fun day! J Please note, Carnival Day is not a rotation day.

In your child’s folder you will find their DIBELS results for the year. I am so pleased with the improvements we have made since January. Way to go! We will be having a pizza party next week to celebrate our accomplishments. J

Week of May 14th-18th

This week in Reading we will begin the story Building Beavers. The question we will focus on is: How do beavers build their homes? This story is an informational text and we will be focusing on the text based comprehension skill of main idea. Our phonics skill is /e/ spelled Ee. Our high frequency words are: the, like, was, from, to.

This week in Math we will begin with Topic 12, Measurement. We will learn to describe objects by more than one attribute, compare by length, weight, and height as well as compare capacities. Please continue practicing counting to 100 by ones, fives, and tens as well as writing numbers 0 to 20.

We will be taking Reading DIBELS on Wednesday. Please make sure your child practices reading nonsense words from the sheet that was sent home last week. Be sure to work on quickly naming letters and segmenting words into their sounds as well. We have been working on these skills for quite some time and I would like to see all students do the best they can. J

This week in Reading we will begin the story Old MacDonald Had a Woodshop. The question we will focus on is: What tools do you need to build things? This story is an animal fantasy and we will be focusing on the text based comprehension skill of character. Our phonics skill is /o/ spelled Oo. Our high frequency words are: where, that, is, come, go

This week in Math we will continue with Topic 11, Decomposing Numbers 11 to 19. We will learn to create number sets to 19 and learn parts of numbers 11-19. Please continue practicing counting to 100 by ones, fives, and tens as well as writing numbers 0 to 20.

Our Book Fair shopping day was today. Your child may shop any day this week in the morning if they did not have book fair money today.

Our daily special schedule for the week is: Monday, Day 3-Gym; Tuesday, Day 4-Music; Wednesday, Day 5-Computer; Thursday, Day 6-Art; and Friday, Day 7-Guidance.
