May 30, 2019
Dear Parents/Guardians,

Tomorrow, Friday, May 31st will be Carnival Day! J We will be spending the majority of this fun day outside. Students are asked to wear gym shorts, a tee-shirt and sneakers. Please be sure to apply sunscreen to your child prior to leaving for school and send additional sunscreen with them. Hats and/or sunglasses are allowed as well. Additionally, it would be helpful if students have an extra pair of socks as there will be multiple inflatables to go on and some are outside. Please be sure to send in a lunch from home if you indicated that on the lunch form.

Please be sure to check your child’s backpack and folder for things coming home. Yesterday, all Kindergarten diplomas were sent in folders. Today, memory books and an extra first grade reading practice book were sent home in backpacks.

Tuesday, June 4th is the last day of school for students! J It is a half day that day.

It has been such a fun year in Kindergarten with this class and I am really going to miss each and every student. I am so happy with the progress and growth each student has made this school year. To celebrate how far they have come we will be having a pizza party on Monday! J I wish you all a fun and safe summer! As always, if you should need me for any reason, feel free to email or call the school!

Sincerely,

Mrs.Capone

Week of May 13th-17th

Our Reading story for the week is “Building Beavers!”. Our question of the week is: How do beavers build their homes? The Amazing Words for this story are: beaver, paddle, stream, lodge, river, lake. The high frequency words are: the, like, was, from, to. The text based comprehension skill is main idea. We will listen for /e/ spelled Ee in the initial and medial position of a word. Please practice reading the “Jim and Kim” decodable story. *Each decodable story can be recorded for the monthly Reading Logs. J

In Math, we will continue our Money unit. We have learned to identify the penny, nickel, dime and quarter as well as their values. We will be finishing up with the dollar bill.

Math DIBELS testing will begin this Wednesday, May15th. Students will be expected to identify numbers to 100 out of order, name the next number (you say 55, student says 56), and distinguish and say the larger amount of dots when given two sets. Please see the practice page attached to this newsletter for an example. All three portions of the test are timed for one minute. We have been working on these skills all year long.
