Week of February 25th-March 1st

Our Reading story for the week is “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”. Our question of the week is: How Can an Adventure Cause Trouble? The Amazing Words for this story are: bears, cottage, porridge, big, middle sized, small. The high frequency words are: one, two, three, four, five. The text based comprehension skill is character. We will listen for /g/ spelled Gg. Please practice reading the “How Many?” decodable story. *Each decodable story can be recorded for the monthly Reading Logs. J

In Math, we will continue working on addition. We will use the vocabulary words: join, sum, and equal. We will learn to use the plus sign and equal sign. Continue to practice counting to 100 by 1’s, 10’s and 5’s.

In Science, we will continue our Physical Science Unit. In this unit, we will continue to learn about our five senses and what objects are made of as well as sorting and using objects.

We will be celebrating Dr. Seuss all week! Students are welcome to bring in any Dr. Seuss storybooks you may have at home. J

February Reading Logs will be collected on Friday, March 1st. Remember, the goal is to read 15 books per month in order to receive the Pizza Hut coupon.

**Please continue working on naming letters, saying beginning sounds of words, segmenting words into sounds ( say dog-student then says /d/ /o//g/)and reading nonsense words. I will be sending home extra practice pages soon. J

Week of February 11th-15th

Our Reading story for the week is “One Little Mouse”. Our question of the week is: What adventures can animals have? The Amazing Words for this story are: woodland, vale, comfortable, nest, hollow, shallow. The high frequency words are: one, two, three, four, five. The text based comprehension skill is sequence. We will listen for consonant blends (ex: /bl/ /pl/ /sp/. Please practice reading the “My Words” decodable story. *Each decodable story can be recorded for the monthly Reading Logs. J

In Math, we will continue working on addition. We will use the vocabulary words: join, sum, and equal. We will learn to use the plus sign and equal sign. Continue to practice counting to 100  by 1’s, 10’s and 5’s. J Look for Math Test to be signed and returned.

In Science, we will begin our Physical Science Unit. In this unit, we will learn about our five senses and what objects are made of as well as sorting and using objects.

Just a reminder, 3 Hour Delay days are not rotation days for special. If school is closed, then the next day open will be the next rotation day for special. Please let me know if you any questions as it can be confusing at times.

Week of February 11th-15th

Our Reading story for the week is “My Lucky Day”. Our question of the week is: What is a lucky adventure? The Amazing Words for this story are: piglet, lucky, cook, fox, filthy, scrubber. The high frequency words are: are, that, do. The text based comprehension skill is cause and effect. We will listen for /l/ spelled Ll. Please practice reading the “Lad and Me” decodable story. *Each decodable story can be recorded for the monthly Reading Logs. J

In Math, we will continue with our next unit, Addition. We will use the vocabulary words: join, sum, and equal. Please see the Home/School Connection page that was sent home today. Continue to practice counting to 100  by 1’s, 10’s and 5’s. J

In Science, we will begin our Physical Science Unit. In this unit, we will learn about our five senses and what objects are made of as well as sorting and using objects.

We will have a Valentine’s Day party on Friday, Feb. 15th at 2pm. Students will exchange cards and play a game or two and have some special treats. Students will need 18 total Valentine’s for our class. Please only fill in the “from” section on the card as it makes handing them out run much more smoothly. Thank You for your help with this! J Students are welcome to send in their Valentine’s earlier than Friday.

Week of February 4th-8th     
          
Our Reading story for the week is “Rooster’s Off to See the World”. Our question of the week is: What can we learn from our adventures? The Amazing Words for this story are: world, trip, journey, lonely, horizon, homesick. The high frequency words are: are, that, do. The text based comprehension skill is sequence. We will listen for /h/ spelled Hh. We will focus on the correct formation of Hh. Please practice reading the “I Have” decodable story. *Each decodable story can be recorded for the monthly Reading Logs. J

In Math, we will finish our unit on comparing numbers and take the assessment. Please be sure to continue working on identifying and writing the numbers 0-20. Practice counting to 100  by 1’s, 10’s and 5’s. J

In Science we will discuss Groundhog Day and learn about shadows while relating them to the Earth and Sun.  

Report Cards are enclosed in your child’s folder today! Be sure to sign the envelope and RETURN to school tomorrow. You may KEEP the report card at home. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns with your child’s progress. Additionally, I noticed some Fall pictures were left in the report card envelope from the last marking period. Be sure to double check your envelope. J

The 100th Day of School will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 6th. Students are invited to dress as if they are 100 years old. Please refer to the note about dressing up that was previously sent home.
