Week of March 25th-29th

Our Reading story for the week is “Mayday! Mayday!”. Our question of the week is: What kinds of transportation help us in an emergency? The Amazing Words for this story are: rescue, yacht, mechanic, pilot, sailor, shimmering. The high frequency words are: yellow, blue, green. The text based comprehension skill is cause and effect. We will listen for /ks/ spelled Xx. Please practice reading the “Max” decodable story. *Each decodable story can be recorded for the monthly Reading Logs. J

In Math, we will finish our subtraction unit this week. We will take the test Thursday. Please look for the test to be signed and retuned. J Please continue counting to 100 by 1’s, 10’s and 5’s. Additionally, we have been counting to 20 by 2’s.

Spring pictures will be taken tomorrow, March 26th. All students will have their picture taken. In a few weeks, the pictures will be sent home. If you choose to keep them, you must pay for the standard package. If you do not want to keep the pictures, they should be returned.

Week of March 18th-22nd

Our Reading story for the week is “Max Takes the Train”. Our question of the week is: What are different ways of going places? The Amazing Words for this story are: plane, subway, ferryboat, jetway, tunnel, sidecar. The high frequency words are: yellow, blue, green. The text based comprehension skill is realism and fantasy. We will listen for /j/ spelled Jj and review /w/ spelled Ww. Please practice reading the “Jen and Will” decodable story. *Each decodable story can be recorded for the monthly Reading Logs. J

In Math, we will continue our unit on Subtraction. Our vocabulary words are: minus sign, equal sign, and take away. We have been working on stories that “take away”.  We have been counting to 100 every day. Please continue to do so at home by 1’s, 10’s and 5’s. Additionally, we have been counting to 20 by 2’s.

In Science/Social Studies we will be learning about Spring (types of weather, things to do, what it looks like and how you might dress) and finish our St. Patrick’s Day read aloud storybooks this week.

Week of March 11th-15th

Our Reading story for the week is “Abuela”. Our question of the week is: What kind of adventures can you have in a city? The Amazing Words for this story are: abuela, adventure, flock, city, airport, harbor. The high frequency words are: here, go, from. The text based comprehension skill is setting. We will listen for /e/ spelled Ee and review /g/ spelled Gg. Please practice reading the “Ted and the Pet” decodable story. *Each decodable story can be recorded for the monthly Reading Logs. J

In Math, we will take the Addition Test early in the week. Please look for it to be signed and returned. We will begin our unit on subtraction this week. We have been counting to 100 every day. Please continue to do so at home by 1’s, 10’s and 5’s. Additionally, we have been counting to 20 by 2’s.

As per district policy, students are permitted to wear shorts again. Please keep in mind that we try to go outside for recess as often as possible. Warm coats, hats, and gloves are still needed as it is still cold.

Week of March4-8th

Our Reading story for the week is “If You Could Go To Antarctica”. Our question of the week is: What would it be like to have an Antarctic adventure? The Amazing Words for this story are: Antarctica, continent, icebergs, penguins, seals, whales. The high frequency words are: here, go, from. The text based comprehension skill is classify and categorize. We will listen for /e/ spelled Ee. Please practice reading the “Ten Ten Ten!” decodable story. *Each decodable story can be recorded for the monthly Reading Logs. J

In Math, we will look to finish our topic on addition this week. We have been counting to 100 every day. Please continue to do so at home by 1’s, 10’s and 5’s. Additionally, we have been counting to 20 by 2’s.

In Science, we will finish up our Physical Science Unit.  

**Please continue working on naming letters, saying beginning sounds of words, segmenting words into sounds ( say dog-student then says /d/ /o//g/)and reading nonsense words. I will be sending home extra practice pages soon. J
