Week of March 5th-9th

This week in Reading we will begin the story If You Could Go to Antarctica. The question we will focus on is: What would it be like to have an Antarctic adventure? This story is an informational text and we will be reviewing the text based comprehension skill of classifying and categorizing. Our phonics skill is /e/ spelled Ee. Students already know that there are two sounds for Ee, long and short, but we will focus on the short Ee sound like at the beginning of elephant. We will continue to work on the writing conventions of using a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence and a period to end a sentence. Our high frequency words are: here, go, from. The amazing words from this story are: Antarctica, icebergs, seals, continent, penguins, whales.

This week in Math we will continue working in Topic 7, Understanding Addition. We will focus on finding sums, addition sentences, and problem solving. We will have our test this week! Please continue practicing counting to 100 by ones.

This Thursday, March 8th, students in K-4 are encouraged to dress up as their hero. Remember, a hero is someone you admire.

Friday will be a busy day at NSE. The PBIS reward day has been rescheduled to this coming Friday, March 9th. There will not be a dress down on that day anymore. Bloomsburg University students will be coming to NSE to celebrate Dr. Seuss Read Across America Day on Friday. Lastly, Spring pictures will be taken on Friday. Students may dress up in their “Sunday best” clothing or dressy type clothing for pictures. Students will be photographed and then pictures packages will be sent home later. If you like the pictures, you will pay for them then. If you do not like or want the pictures, simply return them to school.

The PTO will be holding a basket auction on April 14th and 15th in the elementary gym. Our class will be donating a basket with a "Summer Pool Fun" theme. Students are asked to donate to our classroom auction basket. Some ideas for our basket include: goggles, diving toys, sunscreen, pool noodles, rafts, sunglasses, towels, flip-flops, pool bags, cool spray fan, thermos water bottle, visor and sun hat. Please send all basket donations by March 30th. Thank You!

Our classroom is in need of some glues sticks. It would be greatly appreciated if each student could bring in a four pack of glue sticks. Thank you in advance for your donation.

Our daily special schedule is: Monday, Day 3: Gym, Tuesday, Day 4: Music, Wednesday, Day 5: Computers, Thursday, Day 6: Art, and Friday, Day 7: Library. Please remember if we have a snow day that the next school day will be the next rotation day.
