Week of March 12th-16th

This week in Reading we will begin the story Abeula. The question we will focus on is: What kind of adventures can you have in the city? This story is fantasy and we will be focusing on the comprehension skill of setting. Our phonics skill is /e/ spelled Ee. Our high frequency words are: here, go, from.

This week in Math we will take our test for Topic 7, Understanding Addition. We will begin Topic 8, Understanding Subtraction. In this topic, we will learn about stories about separating, take away and comparing. Additionally, we will learn about using the minus sign, finding differences and subtraction sentences. Please continue practicing counting to 100 by ones, fives, and tens.

Our classroom is in need of some glues sticks. It would be greatly appreciated if each student could bring in a four pack of glue sticks. Thank you in advance for your donation.

Our daily special schedule is: Monday, Day 7: Library, Tuesday, Day 8: Gym, Wednesday, Day 9: Music, Thursday, Day 10: Computers, and Friday, Day 1: Art. Please remember if we have a snow day that the next school day will be the next rotation day.

Please be sure to carefully read the PTO letter about the basket auction that was sent home today. Our classroom basket theme for the auction is “Summer Time Pool Fun”. We will be accepting donations until April 6th. Some ideas for our basket include: sunscreen, goggles, mask, pool toys, flip-flops, sun hats, visor, Frisbee, balls, rafts, pool noodles, inflatables, towels, and swim bag.

The “I’m A Reader”, Read At Home Challenge contracts are due by tomorrow, March 13th. Please be sure to send the contract in once it is initialed. Congratulations to the students who found my ad in the newspaper last week! I hope you enjoyed your treat. J
