Week of October 15th-19th
Our Reading story for
the week is “Flowers”. Our
question of the week is: How are flowers unique? The Amazing Words for this
story are: seeds, fruits, buds, stem, bloom, petals. The high frequency words
are: have, is. The text based comprehension skill is compare and contrast. We
will listen for /a/ spelled Aa at the beginning and middle of a word. We will
focus on the correct formation of Aa. Please practice reading the “I Have!” decodable story. *Each
decodable story can be recorded for the monthly Reading Logs. J Please be sure to practice letter
naming and sight words daily. All students were tested on sight words last
week. Be sure to check your child’s folder to see what list they have
completed. Please use the flashcards that were enclosed in the plastic sleeve
at the beginning of the school year to practice learning these words.
In Math, we will continue
to sort and classify 2-D and 3-D shapes. Last week, we learned about a triangle
and square. We used the vocabulary words: sides, vertices or corners, and
straight or curvy lines. Please practice number fluency each night as well as writing
numbers 0-10.
In Science, we will
continue discussing the seasons and focusing in on changes in Fall. We will
learn about the lifecycle of a pumpkin this week as we did not get to it last
week.
