Week of October 23rd-26th
Our Reading story for
the week is “Nature Spy”. Our
question of the week is: What can we learn about nature when we look closely?
The Amazing Words for this story are: discover, spy, pod, nature, acorn,
pattern. The high frequency words are: have, is. The text based comprehension skill
is setting. We will listen for /s/ spelled Ss at the beginning and end of a
word. We will focus on the correct formation of Ss. Please practice reading the
“Sock Sack” decodable story.
*Each decodable story can be recorded for the monthly Reading Logs. J Please be sure to practice letter
naming and sight words daily. Use the flashcards that were enclosed in the
plastic sleeve at the beginning of the school year to practice learning these
words.
In Math, we will continue
to sort and classify 2-D and 3-D shapes. So far, we have learned about a
square, rectangle, triangle, and circle. We know how to count the edges or side
and where to find the vertices on these shapes. Today we introduced a
trapezoid, rhombus, hexagon, and oval. We
used the vocabulary words: sides, vertices or corners, and straight or curvy
lines. Please practice number fluency each night as well as writing numbers
0-10.
In Science this week,
we will finish our lessons on pumpkins. We will be labeling the parts of a
pumpkin and doing a pumpkin exploration.
Please be sure to
return the extra clothing that was sent home last week. I sent it home for you
to replace it with seasonally appropriate dress code clothing. Also, please be
sure your child has a sweater or quarter zip they can put on throughout the
day.
