Week of April 16th-20th

This week in Reading we will begin the story On the Move! The question we will focus on is: How do people in different parts of the world travel? This story is an informational text and we will be focusing on the text based comprehension skill of main idea. Our phonics skill is /v/ spelled Vv and /z/ spelled Zz. Our high frequency words are: where, come

This week in Math we will continue with Topic 9, Composing and Decomposing Numbers to 10. We will learn to make the numbers 4-10 as well as write number sentences for the numbers 4-10. Our topic 9 test will be on Wednesday. J Please continue practicing counting to 100 by ones, fives, and tens as well as writing numbers 0 to 20.

On Friday, a timed writing words assessment and explanation was sent home. We will be practicing writing as many words as we can in ten minutes. An average goal is 30 words. I will be sending these home so you can see how your child is doing. Be sure to practice this at home as well. Using word families and changing a vowel is an easy way to think of more words quickly.

Our daily special schedule for the week is: Monday, Day 8-Gym; Tuesday, Day 9-Music; Wednesday, Day 10-Computer; Thursday, Day 1-Art; and Friday, Day 2-Guidance.

Some dates to look ahead: 4/18-Picture Money or Returned Pictures Due, 4/20-Spartan Dress Down $1.00, 4/26-Kindergarten Graduation Pictures (students must wear a white collar).
